March 29 - April 25, 2008
Tickets are now on sale for the 12th annual International Music Festival Heidelberger Frühling, which, from March 29 to April 25, will be host to renowned musicians from around the world.
In attendance will be Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, with conductor Sakari Oramo and Hans Zender, as well as pianist Murray Perahia, Fazil Say, SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden und Freiburg and baritone Thomas Hampson. The festival will also showcase a multitude of young and talented artists, including the French quartet Quatuor Ebène, soprano Annette Dasch, cellist Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and the young Polish pianist Rafal Blechacz, who won the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2005.
From April 3 – 6, the „Heidelberger Atelier“, under the creative auspices of composer Matthias Pintscher, will showcase concerts, open rehearsals, readings and lectures. The American baritone Thomas Hampson will host a master class for singing students, and the Leipzig installation artist, Erwin Stache, will partake in “Ears open! the Heidelberger Frühling School Project” – a day-long project with students from around the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. In addition, from April 10 – 13, there will be a string quartet festival made up of string quartets from six countries in Europe.
The Heidelberger Frühling
The festival began in 1996 as part of Heidelberg’s 800-year anniversary. Within a few years, the festival had developed into one of the “most exciting and innovative music festivals in Germany” (DeutschlandRadio). Today, with around 70 events annually, an innovative program concept and a unique financial plan, the Heidelberg music festival is now the leading festival for classic and contemporary music in Germany.
